Terms & Conditions

By accessing or using AgroNutrient Explorer (the “Service”), you agree to these Terms & Conditions (the “Terms”). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1) Eligibility & Acceptable Use

You must use the Service in compliance with applicable laws and refrain from misuse, including attempting to interfere with normal operation, reverse engineering, or unauthorized access.

2) Data & Privacy

Your use of the Service is governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect and process information.

3) User-Generated Content (UGC)

  • Ownership. You retain ownership of any content you submit, upload, post, or otherwise make available through the Service (“UGC”).
  • License to Us. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable and sublicensable license to host, store, reproduce, modify, create derivative works (e.g., formatting or transformations), display, perform, and distribute your UGC as necessary to operate, improve, promote, and protect the Service.
  • Your Responsibility. You represent and warrant that you have all rights needed to grant the above license and that your UGC does not infringe the rights of others or violate law.
  • Prohibited UGC. Do not submit unlawful, deceptive, defamatory, harassing, hateful, or privacy-violating content; malware; or content that attempts to re-identify individuals in anonymized datasets.
  • Moderation. We may (but are not obligated to) review, remove, or disable access to UGC that violates these Terms or law.
  • Feedback. If you provide feedback or suggestions, you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free license to use them without restriction or attribution.

4) API & Data Licensing

The Service may expose application programming interfaces (“APIs”) and datasets (collectively, “Data”). Unless a separate written agreement or an explicit license states otherwise, the following terms apply:

  • License Grant. We grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access and use the APIs and Data solely to build features, analyses, or applications that interact with the Service in accordance with these Terms.
  • Attribution. You must provide reasonable attribution in your product, paper, or visualization (e.g., “Source: AgroNutrient Explorer / CIMMYT”) and retain any embedded attribution, notices, or metadata.
  • Rate Limits & Fair Use. Do not exceed any published or unpublished rate limits, create abusive call patterns, or attempt to bypass throttling, authentication, or access controls. We may change or enforce limits at any time.
  • Caching. You may cache responses for performance, but must refresh or purge cached copies within a reasonable period or when we notify you of updates or revocations.
  • Redistribution. Except where a dataset is explicitly provided under a permissive public license (and you comply with that license), you may not redistribute raw Data. Aggregated, de-identified outputs from your analysis are allowed, provided they cannot be used to reconstruct the original Data or re-identify individuals or farms.
  • Commercial Use. Commercial use of APIs or Data may require separate written permission or a commercial license. If uncertain, contact us before deployment.
  • Third-Party Sources. Some Data originates from third parties and is subject to their licenses; you must comply with all third-party terms and restrictions.
  • No Re-identification. You must not attempt to re-identify individuals, households, or specific farms from anonymized or aggregated Data, nor combine Data with other sources to do so.
  • No Scraping. You may not scrape or harvest the Service or Data outside of the provided APIs, nor use automated means to access features in a way that burdens or degrades the Service.
  • Updates & Termination. We may update, suspend, or revoke API/Data access at any time. Upon notice, you must cease use, delete cached copies as instructed, and update your products accordingly.

5) Intellectual Property

The Service, including its design, features, and content, may include materials licensed from third parties. All rights not expressly granted are reserved. You may not remove proprietary notices or use trademarks without permission.

6) Third-Party Content & Links

The Service may provide links to third-party sites or datasets. We do not control and are not responsible for their content, policies, or practices.

7) Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties—express, implied, or statutory—including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation.

8) Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from or related to your use of the Service.

9) Changes to the Service & Terms

We may modify or discontinue features at any time. We may update these Terms from time to time; continued use of the Service after changes indicates acceptance of the updated Terms.

10) Governing Law

These Terms are governed by applicable law, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Venue and jurisdiction will be determined by the competent courts as provided by such law.
